Health Ministries

Health Ministries Team assists toward holistic wellness.
This group seeks to help meet the wholistic health needs (spiritual, physical, emotional and mental health) of our congregation and friends.

Upcoming Events:

5 WISHES ADVANCED DIRECTIVE WORKSHOP:   This one is  for YOU!  No matter what your age or situation in life, it's a smart  decision to have an Advanced Medical Directive completed, and you are invited to  join Parish Nurse Muriel Peavler in the Library on Thursday, May 12th to do just  that.  We'll meet from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Please sign up on the  clipboard outside the office to reserve your spot!

WALK TO JERUSALEM:   A virtual walk started on January 23rd.  This imaginary walk encouraged Central members and friends to increase our physical activity, spiritual growth, and cultural awareness through a virtual tour to Jerusalem.  If you would like to expand your world of understanding, go to "Culturally Fit" Congregation to increase global and cultural awareness to understand our neighbors on this planet.

One-on-one counseling:  Our members are an integral part of our congregation.  People know and can trust their experience and confidentiality as they share their concerns, losses, and personal health problems.

Education:  Team members present and/or arrange for programs covering all areas of the holistic spectrum.  They are also available to present programs to other groups within the church.

Health Safety:  We maintain Central's wheelchairs and AED (defibrillator), supply first aid kits, and encourage safety and hygiene measures to keep our members and guests safe.  Training is provided for ushers, teachers, and the congregation as a whole.  Health Ministry Team meets the  2nd Tuesday, September - June, 5:00-6:15  P.M. at Central UMC in the Library.
Much work is "behind-the-scenes" and continues year round.  Contact Muriel Peavler,  pea728@charter.net  for more information.
Referral service:

Health Ministry members can help connect congregations with other community services.  We do not duplicate services already provided in our area EXCEPT for monthly blood pressure checks.  The Health Ministry Team conducts a Free Blood Pressure Clinic on the 3rd Sunday of each month after each service in the lounge or at the park during the summer.
Memory Keepers:

This group is for those who have lost someone dear to them.  You are invited to join with others who have experienced loss by sharing memories, support, and friendship.  If you would like, bring a picture, a music recording, a small keepsake or a story to share that reminds you of your loved one.   Group facilitator is Muriel Peavler.  Meetings are once a month on Wednesdays from 4:00 - 5:15 p.m. in the church lounge.  Contact Dave Lather pdlather@charter.net  or Muriel Peavler pea728@charter.net for more information.
During the Christmas Season we featured a Holiday Memorial Handout that is available on the Health Ministries Board located across from the office.  The Handout consists of an Advent litany that can be said to remember a loved one at this time of  year, while you light your candles on your Christmas wreath.
