The Hunger Committee plays a key role in Central's outreach to the less fortunate in our own community and the broader world.
The committee's activities include:
- Coordinating the church's participation in CROP Walk.
- Sponsoring two Hymn Sings each year, one in early November and the other around Palm Sunday. These include free-will offerings for some hunger related program or organization, usually the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Please call the church office for specific dates and times.
- Supervising congregational food collections. We ask Centralites to bring nonperishable food and personal items to church the last Sunday of each month.
- Overseeing Central's "adopt-a-family" initiative at Christmas.
- Coordinating Central's participation in the annual "Souper Bowl of Caring" hunger offering on Super Sunday. We usually donate the funds we raise to the Fresh Food Partnership, a local program.
- Coordinating distribution of plastic "Noah's Ark" bank to children in February to support the Heifer Project.
All are welcome who support our mission and are willing to help. We meet on Wednesdays from September - May. Call the church office, 946-5191 for dates and times or contact John Flesher.
