Love, Inc Affiliations with Central United Methodist Church
Central Emergency Fund
Our Emergency Fund is the largest item in the budget of the Mission Ministry Team. The church constantly receives phone calls requesting financial aide. Central provides breakfast twice a week, shower facilities and an address for mail - the only address some people have! Shaving cream, razors, deodorant, and other amenities are provided as well.
Mission Possible
Each year, Central Church youth teams travel to a mission site to complete a designated project. The funds for these trips are raised by the youth and the Mission Ministry Team gives them support. The Kyle Sonnemann Scholarship is also used to help those youth that need financial aid for mission work. Contact Pastor Chris Lane for more information.
Northport & Kewadin Indian Mission
For over 140 years Northport Indian Mission United Methodist Church congregation has worshiped at it's present site on North Manitou Trail (M-22) just west of the village of Northport. Over 90% of the congregation are Native Americans. As the only Protestant Native American church on the Leelanau Penninsula, Northport Indian Mission UMC provides significant ministry to those who live on and around tribal land of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians at Peshawbestown. Each year a group helps in the spring to clean up the churches for the summer outdoor services. The churches service six counties in the surrounding area. In the month of July, Kewadin has a week of Revival Camp and Northport holds their camp the first week in August. During the summer there is a service every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Northport Church, two miles west of Northport on M-22 on the left hand side of the road. All are welcome. The pastor is Reverend Thomas John. Contact Jim Huckle for more information.
