During ReGroup, you will find studies, craft projects, presentations about topics of interest in our community, and meaningful discussions. As always, these are open to everyone in our community, you do not have to be a member of Central Church. Registration is Required for all groups. Childcare is available during our classes.
- Summer Opportunities
Summer Book Group
One gathering each month through the summer
Summer is a great time to slow down and read books just for fun. Come together with others that have read the same book to deepen your understanding and experience. Through conversation, we will find the examples in these books that help us see God’s love and Grace. Even when the book isn’t overtly ‘Christian’ the themes of good winning out over bad still prevail. Join us for one meeting, or all three, based on your availability and interest in the book selected. All meetings take place at Central Church from 7:00-8:00 in the evening. Books are available in the church office and at Church in the Park.
- "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman on June 28
- "Hallelujah Anyway: Rediscovering Mercy" by Anne Lamott on July 26
- "Small Great Things" by Jodi Picoult on August 30
Listening for the Heartbeat of God
4 sessions offered, with a morning and evening option.
- Morning Group will meet at Higher Grounds from 10:00-11:00 on the following dates: July 12, July 19, August 2, and August 9.
- Evening Group will meet from 7:00-8:00 at Higher Grounds, on the following dates: July 13, July 20, August 3, August 10.
"Listening for the Heartbeat of God" presents spirituality for today, modeled on the vital characteristics of Celtic spirituality through the centuries. Here is an emphasis on the essential goodness of creation and humanity made in the image of God. Connect with others and God, through nature this summer! The plans for this small group are still being finalized, but there is much enthusiasm and excitement for this opportunity to grow this summer. Take the time this summer to get outside the church walls and experience faith. Books are available for $10 in the church office and at Church in the Park.
The Men’s Room support group for men at Central will be taking the summer off. However, Mark Jackson has invited the men of the church out to his place on Green Lake for some fellowship, passing dish BBQ meal, and a pontoon ride on the lake. Guys, what’s not to like about this?! Mark your calendars for Thursday evening, July 13. Stay tuned for more details. Feel free to contact Pastor Chris to carpool from the church.
Planting a Prayer
Cancelled but will be re-scheduled in the future
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31 Gardens play an important role in the Scriptures. For many of us, they play an important part in our own journey of faith. Come to this intergenerational experience to have a time of devotion together and build a terrarium to take home. Maybe this planting can be the start of a prayer station in your home, or at least a daily reminder of God’s grace in your life. If you’d like to bring your family, older children are welcome to participate and younger children will have a developmentally appropriate activity for them with our nursery staff. All materials will be provided. A $5 ($10/family if more than one member is attending) donation to cover the cost of materials is requested. Please register online so we know how many people to plan for.
Every Step a Prayer—A Summer Walking Bible Study
You probably know the benefits of walking for your physical health, but have you considered that walking is also good for your soul? Join us this summer as we explore walking as a spiritual practice. We will use a book called "Every Step a Prayer" by Thomas R. Hawkins. Each chapter has reflection questions and practical exercises to help you walk prayerfully. As a group, we will have a time of devotion and discussion combined with a walk. The session can help you individually use the practice during the week. Come when you are able, each chapter is more or less a stand-alone experience.
We will meet at 7:00 p.m. at the listed trail heads, weather permitting, on the following dates. Books are available for $10 in the church office and at Church in the Park. Directions to the trailheads will be available as we get closer to the study.

Alline Beutler’s House, 11909 Bluff Rd, Traverse City
Wednesday, August 9 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
$15 covers the cost of materials and dinner
Water is all around us. It is necessary for life and also has a calming and renewing effect. In Traverse City, we can take the beauty and utility for granted if we aren’t intentional about appreciation. Join us for a fun evening of fellowship, conversation, and activity as we explore God’s Grace through water. Dinner will be a salad bar. Each participant is asked to bring something to add to a salad. Greens, dressings, bread, drinks, and dessert will be provided. Come to the water for renewal and relaxation!
- Wednesday Night Presentations/Activites are offered after our Wonderful Wednesday Meal. Presentations are from 6:25 - 7:25 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. No current offerings at this time. Please check back.
