SERVING SATURDAY IS MAY 20 - Join Central Church for a morning of serving in the community. Formerly known as “Change the World Day”, our new name is Serving Saturday. It’s simply a way to serve our community in the spirit of Christ. All ages welcome. Meet at Central Church parking lot 8:30 a.m. for a send-off prayer and a bottle of water. Work begins by 9am at each site.
Here are projects where we will be serving:
- Our Neighbors’ Garden: preparing the ground and planting this year’s crop. Produce will eventually be distributed to food pantries in the region. Location: Garfield Road & Three Mile (next to former site of Christ UM Church). Tools provided. Contact person: John Ellinger (cell) 231-631-9237.
- Ashton Park to spread wood chips on trails. Location: Slabtown neighborhood next to Willow Hill Elementary School. The work will be unloading and spreading chips on trail. (bring shovel, rake, pitchfork, wheelbarrow would also be helpful). Contact person: John Flesher (cell) 231-944-9133.
- Cherryland Humane Society: trimming bushes, weeding, and washing dogs. Location: 1750 Ahlberg Rd. (bring clippers, shovel). Contact person: Pastor Chris Lane (cell) 231-313-4480.
- Northport Indian Mission Campgrounds: raking, blowing leaves, tree-trimming, replacing screens. Location: Northport. Special Note: This project requires departing 8am from church via carpool in order to arrive Northport by 9am. Plan on staying for lunch provided by Native American community. (bring rake).
