O God, even with so many barriers present, may families in Beirut, Lebanon suffering from the recent explosion experience hope & tangible long-term help from the nations of the world. May they survive and one day again thrive. May Christians in that place be empowered to support all they encounter, especially their Muslim neighbors.

Prayer of Petition during the Coronavirus Pandemic ~ portions inspired by The Rev Barbara Glasson of the British Methodist Church Loving God, If we are ill, strengthen us. If we are tired, fortify our spirits. If we are anxious, help us to consider the lillies of the field and the birds of the air. Help us not to stockpile treasures from supermarkets in the barns of our larders. Don't let fear cause us to overlook the needs of others more vulnerable than ourselves. O fix our eyes onto your story and our hearts onto your grace. Help us always to hold fast to the good, See the good in others, And remember there is just one world, one hope, One everlasting love, with baskets of bread for everyone. We pray - 1. For those with mental health challenges who feel isolated, anxious, and helpless: God, empower us to provide them every necessary support. 2. For the homeless, unable to practice the protocols of social distancing in the shelter system: empower your people to provide day shelters & sack lunches in every city. 3. For families with young children at home for the foreseeable future: God, help mothers and fathers to partner together creatively for the care and flourishing of their children. And for single mothers and fathers to grow their networks of support. 4. For parents who cannot stay home from work but must find care for their children as businesses begin to re-open. O God, present them with creative solutions. 5. For those in need of regular therapies and treatments that must now be postponed: God, help them to stay patient and positive. 6. For business leaders making difficult decisions that affect the lives of their employees: God, give these women and men wisdom, and help them to lead as servant-leaders. 7. For college and university students, whose courses of study are changing, whose placements are canceled, whose graduations deferred: God, show them that while life is uncertain, they may still trust that life is good. 8. For Christians in every neighborhood, community, and city: May your Holy Spirit inspire us to pray, to give, to love, to serve, and to proclaim the gospel in how we act. In Jesus we make our prayer, The one who suffered, died and was raised to new life, In whom we trust these days and all days, …& who spoke this prayer, even when his disciples felt a pandemic of fear, empowering them for how to carry on, saying …. Our Father …

Prayers of gratitude, please, for the life of Clarine Olson. She and Dick were unendingly supportive with our international student musicians studying at Interlochen. That support continued for twenty years and probably more. From teaching kids to play chess, providing clothing, and helping with tuition, Clarine and Dick ensured that these children would thrive while far away from home. And thrive they did! All of the many students with whom we were involved, graduated from Interlochen and college, then went on to get advanced degrees and are teaching and performing in the wider world. The Olsons left their imprint on our community in many arenas, but their quiet gifts to kids far away from home will always be a cherished memory. Julie Maxson
