Mobility Worldwide West Michigan

By Zeke Fleet, CUMC Missions Committee

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”       Hebrews 13:16

Mission Statement: To provide, without cost, mobility, dignity, self-respect, and self-esteem to children who do not have the use of their legs.

Imagine a child who is unable to walk, run, or play. A child unable to participate in simple activities at home, neighborhood parks, schools, or church.

Mobility Worldwide-West Michigan is an affiliate of Mobility Worldwide International and is a faith-based organization located in Holland, Michigan. This mission was established in 2009 by retired engineer, Al Kindig, and is staffed by an all-volunteer group that manufactures and distributes small, rugged, hand-cranked mobility carts that are suitable for children who are unable to use their legs. Most of these children live in remote areas of the world where standard wheelchairs are ineffective because of the rough terrain. Mobility Worldwide-West Michigan, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, makes mobility possible for children who have suffered diseases such as polio, congenital deformities, birth defects, or those who’ve had accidents or have experienced the horror of land mines. These chain-driven carts provide these children with the gift of mobility, allowing them opportunities for inclusion in families, schools, churches and communities. The carts are shipped from Holland to destinations such as Zambia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Zaire, and the Republic of the Congo through a network of partners such as World Vision, World Health, Americares, Brother’s Brother, and Pathways to Hope in Africa. Through 2024, more than 7,000 carts for children have been manufactured and distributed.

Mobility Worldwide-West Michigan has been a long-time Mission of Central United Methodist Church.

Please help improve the quality of life for children in need throughout the world by offering financial support for this important mission. Funds are needed for purchase of cart parts, equipment repair, facility rental fees, and other expenses. Each cart costs approximately $400 to produce.

We urge you to transform a child’s life through Mobility Worldwide-West Michigan.

Your financial contributions can greatly improve the lives of precious young people in need. Please select “Central Missions” on the dropdown and specify Mobility Worldwide-West Michigan when making an online donation. Support can also be made through contributions to the Coins-For-Change bucket that will be in Central’s gathering area through August.
