Carol Evans and her family moved to Traverse City from Marshall in 1977, and soon after began looking for a church where they could feel at home. They sought a church where they could find a sense of community, where they could experience vibrant worship services with rich and inspiring music, and one that was dedicated to helping people in need  in the community and throughout the world.  They visited Central United Methodist Church and found what they were looking for and have since remained.

During her 45 years at Central, Carol has served on many committees and projects including the role of Director of Christian Education for several years. Currently she is chair of the Church Council where she has served since 2017. She also chairs the Hospitality Team and is a member of the Chancel Choir.

The Church Council serves as the church’s administrative arm and works closely with the Finance Committee, Trustee Committee, Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee, and the Drive Team that helps direct church projects and programs.   The Council helps shape the vision and direction of the church and guides the church staff and pastors to continually keep in step with Central’s mission.  The Church Council meets five times each year and also convenes for special meetings.

Carol retired following a twenty-year career as Extended Education Director at Northwestern Michigan College. She’s devoted to her volunteer work, enjoys traveling, reading, kayaking, biking, gardening, and most anything outdoors, especially hiking on area trails.

Carol says, “I feel connected at Central, and I’m especially proud of the church’s community work and numerous outreach programs.  These efforts help people get established and meet their essential needs.”

Carol, You are a jewel among us, going about your many years of handling responsibility at Central on behalf of all of us. I know first hand of your loyalty and contributions in chancel choir and your inspiring and comforting prayers from the pulpit in past years, none lovlier. To quote our dear former choir master/organist Robert Murphy, “Thank you for all you have done…and all you will be asked to do.” God bless.
